Our Courses

We run regular courses consisting of classroom-based theory sessions along with on the road guidance runs in the associates own car.

Theory

Our theory classes are held at The Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education (formally Grimsby College) and run for six weeks (4 Sessions spaced two weeks apart). During the evening classes you will be guided through the IAM's driving manual "Pass Your Advanced Driving Test/How to be an Advanced Driver" There are quizzes based on the Highway Code and presentations with videos to make digesting the information easier, interesting and fun! We also have guest speakers such as the local IAM examiner and the Casualty Reduction Officer from Humberside Police. You will also get a chance to meet the observers and the other associates on the course over a cup of coffee or tea.

 

On the Road

As driving is a practical skill you could not improve your driving without going on the road too! So our qualified observers will give guidance and support in town and country giving you the opportunity to put into practice the theory you have learnt!

On the road guidance runs are from The Crows Nest, Balmoral Road, Cleethorpes on the second and last Sunday of each month and from the Woolpack Inn at the Riverhead, Louth on the first and third Sunday of each month - both at 10AM prompt. You can have your driving assessed for free during any of these sessions.

Cannot make a Sunday? Not a problem. Our observers can be available at any time to suit your needs.

Guidance runs take place in the associates own car which MUST be taxed, MOTed (If required) and Insured for the drivers use. The Drivers must also hold a full licence for the category of vehicle they are driving.

When?

Courses run every January, May and September. Once you have joined our group but havent yet taken the Advanced Driving test you can continue to attend the observed guidance runs on a Sunday as you are a member of our group for one year. When you have passed and remain a member you can continue to come on a Sunday and have your driving 'checked' or maybe you would like to train to be an observer?
